We have loved every one of the WREN design's recycled PPC Cement Bag products since we first met their papery splendour but, after the recent Tablet Sleeves photoshoot -we have to say- we are completely besotted. Wendren and her team borrowed some KIN items to complement the look and feel, and created a beautifully-expressed personality for each sleeve.

Success! Results from our Earth Day Window

After the sales of the designer birds and MOKO bird houses in April, Soil for Life received R4679.40! We came back from the weekend to find the loveliest email waiting in our inboxes letting us know how the money was used. We feel so special to have been a part of Dagmar of MOKO's vision for this beautiful project!

"Your support helps us to create our own ‘Bird Houses’ in the communities where we work – creating little spaces where life can grow once again."

"Our trainers at Soil for Life are currently in their biggest round of training to date – we hope to train around 1000 people this year, which is double the amount of people trained last year. We estimate that this directly affects the lives of another 6000 people, and so step by step we are seeing the spreader of a greener Cape Town with people helping themselves and caring for the environment. The money that you donated will be used to purchase seeds – we initially help all of the people that we train with seeds, and then teach them how to save their own."

Studio Sneak Peek : MOKO

A Sneak Peek? What's this? Chatting over tea at HQ one day, we were marvelling at how lucky we are to work with such an array of wonderful designers, and in doing so get to know them, their spaces, people and pets. Suddenly we thought, "We should share them!" and voila! we now have a spot on the blog for Studio Sneak Peeks.

Dagmar Grimmelikhuysen, owner and sole designer of Moko has always been inspired by the beauty of Mother Nature and all things earthy. She enjoys working with wood and natural mediums and loves the variety of textures, patterns and smells she deals with on a daily basis.

MOKO began with a range of children’s toys and has now taken a turn into homeware and decor design which is Dagmar’s latest passion. All pieces are made using recycled wood or wood from sustainable forestry.

Although her main medium is wood, Dagmar also incorporates bits of leather, water-based paints, and varnishes into her work. She often experiments with other mediums as a way to spark creativity and growth.

KIN Pops Up at Pulp Kitchen in Willowbridge

Pulp Kitchen and KIN share a few essential core strengths - we are both passionate about advocating locally-made goods and supporting our local industries. Pulp Kitchen even boasts furniture made by local designers using recycled/reclaimed materials, and bamboo shelves which are 100% sustainable. When Pulp Kitchen approached us with the idea of a designer goods, in-store pop-up we loved the idea immediately. It feels natural for us to team up in this exciting collaboration as it's the coming-together of two businesses both besotted with South Africa and South African-made. After numerous chats and planning visits, you can now find selected KIN products at Pulp Kitchen in Willowbridge, Tyger Valley.

Our selection for Pulp Kitchen features mostly kitchen or home oriented items such as Chandler House cermaics, MOKO's raw oak boards, Sootcookie's Take-Away ceramic range, Yumyum's table runners and Alice May Design's Dippy Egg Boards. Pulp Kitchen has cultivated a relaxed yet contemporary atmosphere and it's wonderful to see how perfectly at home our products are in this thriving neighbourhood hub.

We love the convenience that our teaming-up offers customers - it's so easy to organise a coffee get-together to debate a mutual friend's wedding gift or to browse the display while waiting for a friend to join you for lunch. We also love the idea of the products taking customers completely by surprise when they next pop in for their morning smoothie.
